Meteora
Meteora is a restaurant by award-winning Chef Jordan Kahn, known for his 2-star Michelin restaurant, Vespertine. The jungle-inspired dining room is filled with lush foliage stretching up toward giant skylights. The space is decorated with greenery and natural materials. Meteora offers modern, experimental cuisine focused on live fire cooking. The design, material, concept and ingredients are all very earthy, aesthetics, hippie but with a jungle natural vibe. Even the furniture and cutlery were prehistoric but in a good way. The entrance is essentially a giant bird’s nest made of spiraling branches swallowing two huge glass doors. Meteora avoids refined sugar, fostering creativity. Kahn uses heirloom grains for flatbread, incorporating boniato sweet potato due to his Cuban heritage. The tomato dish with smoked almond and grilled peanuts was quite interesting and flavours. On the dessert side the squash filled with warm custard was quite innovative and tasteful. Ending with fruit rather than the usual chocolate bonbon was creative and given an indication of how organic the restaurant is.
