Café Sacher Wien
Cafe Sacher, where the story began. Sacher Torte, the rich, dark chocolate sponge cake with apricot jam and a thin layer of bitter sweet chocolate icing. It can be found in practically every coffee and cake shop in the city. The closely guarded secret recipe dates back to 1832. The Sacher family had to contend with many confectioners producing imitations of their cake, which eventually prompted the current owners to gain a court order in the 1960’s giving them – and only them – copyright to advertise and sell the Original Sachertorte. The Original Sacher-Torte is still hand-made using Franz Sacher’s original recipe to this day. A trip to Vienna is not complete without trying the Sacher Torte. Personally I preferred the one at Cafe Landtmann.
