The Verdict

Osteria Funkcoolio, Chef Akmal Anuar, renowned for creating homegrown dining concepts, the mastermind behind 3 Fils, the Japanese-inspired restaurant crowned as the best in the Middle East and North Africa, and 11 Woodfire, the UAE’s first restaurant to earn a Michelin star recently launched Osteria Funkcoolio. The 30-seater restaurant defies categorisation. This is not your traditional Italian restaurant. Funkoolio is described as Itameshi cuisine, a fusion between Italian and Japanese. The atmosphere, more akin to an upscale steakhouse than a classic Italian eatery. The Arancini Nigiri comprises of fried rice rather than traditional boiled rice. The pasta dishes are creative deviating from conventional Italian dishes commonly found around town. You should not miss the desserts especially the #tiramisu which is served with whipped cream and meringue. This is definitely a restaurant which worth multiple visits to fully appreciate its bold, experimental approach.
