Jai Fai

Jai Fai restaurant may be the first street food outlet that is awarded a Mechlin star. At 72 Jai Fai as she is known (her real name is Supinya Junsuta) is the only cook in the restaurant and she still cooks every dish from 9 am until 9 pm. The restaurant is highly popular among food enthusiasts despite its high prices. The crab omelette is the most famous dish but the other dishes (for example, Fried rice noodles and Stir fry curry prawn are also recommended.The waiting list opens at 7 am and people immediately queue . By 9 am when the restaurant opens the list is full and they accept no more requests for enrolment on the list. The weight is quite long because Jai Fai cooks each and every dish by herself. Sometimes the waiting may extend for almost 7 hours.I was surprised to find on the menu price for ice in a glass and in a bucket. Later I realised that when you ask for water, they serve it warm, so you have to pay for the ice.
