Dubai has a few Mexican restaurants but the majority serve serve Tex-Mex cuisine. This recently opened restaurant, with its casual atmosphere and seating, endeavours to serve authentic Mexican cuisine. To my knowledge, Taqueria serves just tacos while Lila Taqueria serves woodfired items as well. Everything is made in-house and most items are sourced locally. I liked the chips with the housemaid salsas. The Tuna Tostados was very good as well; strong taste with zesty flavour. The Tacos (I ordered the crunchy fish) and the signature Al Pastor (think of shawarma) served only after 3 pm, were both not to my like. The fish had a weird taste and the lamb was hard and bland. Al pastor was introduced into Mexico by Lebanese immigrants and today it is one of the most popular street foods in Mexico. From the wood grilled entrees we ordered the fish which was very good; fresh and tasty. The churros where the highlight of the dinner. Probably the best you would find in Dubai. Unfortunately we didn’t try the steak as we had ordered enough food. Overall rating is Good. Chef Shaw is hospitable and welcoming. Makes sure to share her knowledge of the menu with diners.
