1947, claimed to be a fine dining pan-Indian restaurant reminiscent of 1947 India. Well, I may disagree with the “fine dining” description. The restaurant is in a large basement space. Decor and ambiance are dull. In fact a part from the one wall decoration at the entrance (which seems to be a popular spot for instagramers) the decor is almost nonexistent. Coming to the food I have to admit that it was tasty and to the better side compared to many Indian restaurants in London. Proper balance and use of spices but more spicy than your usual Indian food in London. So it is closer to original Indian food and not tweaked to meet westerners. The biryani was excellent, the Dahl was so so. However, what disappointed me was the selection of desserts. If you are at an Indian restaurant you would expect to have Indian food including Indian desserts. Unfortunately, the desserts were European. Sorry but what part of India has cheesecake or a Molten Chocolate cake?! Where Ras Malai or Gulab Jamun? Still overall rating is Very Good.
